Air Mauritius: Despite Criticism, Kishore Beegoo Defends His Track Record and Recovery Ambitions
The chairman of the board of Air Mauritius, Kishore Beegoo, is preparing to present the financial results of the national airline for the period from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025. The board will meet this Thursday to review these figures prior to their official publication.
In the first quarter of the year, Air Mauritius reported a profit of Rs 252 million, a significant improvement compared to a loss of Rs 611 million during the same period last year—an internal turnaround that has been well received.
Despite these results, Kishore Beegoo faces renewed criticism, particularly from Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger, who deemed the recent cancellation of flights to and from Madagascar as "unnecessary." However, the chairman insists he remains committed to "reviving Air Mauritius," staying true to his recovery mission.
Additionally, André Viljoen has officially taken over as CEO of the airline, marking his return after an 11-year absence. The transition of power is underway, and several priority issues have already been handed over by the managing committee, which will be dissolved on October 29, in accordance with internal procedures.
The finalized financial report will be presented to the press on Friday by Kishore Beegoo, following validation by the board.
Despite the criticism, the chairman's entourage assures that he continues to enjoy the support of Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam, who believes that Kishore Beegoo "has nothing to be ashamed of." The two men are said to have had multiple discussions since the Prime Minister's return from London.
