Weather: Chenge Approaches Its Closest Point North of Agalega
Analysis of the latest satellite images and observations indicates that Chenge is currently passing its closest point north of Agalega. Moreover, it is moving in an unfavorable environment and could weaken into a tropical depression within the next few hours, according to a statement from the Mauritius Meteorological Services issued on Friday, October 24, 2025, for Agalega.
At 4 AM, the moderate tropical storm Chenge was centered around latitude 9.8° south and longitude 57.1° east, approximately 80 km northeast of Agalega. It is moving in a general westward direction at a speed of 10 km/h. Given its position and movement, Chenge still poses a threat to Agalega.
The weather will remain cloudy with moderate to heavy showers at times, accompanied by thunderstorms. Winds will blow from the east-southeast at around 50 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h. The sea will be very rough with swells of about 6 meters. It is strongly advised not to venture out to sea.
