[Anti-Plastic Regulation] A Wholesaler Caught by the Environmental Police

On Friday, October 24, 2025, the environmental police conducted a targeted operation in Pamplemousses based on credible information regarding the distribution of non-biodegradable plastic bags and products.

Accompanied by agents from the Plastic Division of the Ministry of the Environment, officers raided a wholesale-retail supermarket in the area. The search, carried out with the owner's consent, led to the confiscation of several batches of banned plastic products.

According to analyses performed using the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), all seized items contained polymers listed in Annex VI of the Banning of Plastic Bags (Amendment) Regulations 2025.

In total, 92,500 plastic products were confiscated:

  • 10,850 non-woven plastic bags
  • 46,700 vest-type bags
  • 21,600 roll bags
  • 13,350 single-use items (cups, forks, spoons, and takeaway boxes)

The store owner was fined for possessing plastic bags and single-use products for commercial purposes, in violation of the current regulations banning plastics.

This operation is part of efforts to strengthen controls aimed at curbing the circulation of banned plastic products in the local market.
