Cocaine Possession and Kidnapping: 'El Capo' and His Two Alleged Accomplices Brought to Court Under Heavy Police Escort
In a swift operation by the Central Investigation Division (CID) of Flacq, Brandon Rodrigues Sena, 31, known as 'El Capo', was arrested on Wednesday, October 29. This Guyanese national is suspected of playing a key role in a large international cocaine trafficking network that was dismantled in 2022.
During the arrest in Argy, Flacq, the police conducted a thorough search of 'El Capo's' vehicle. The seized evidence was significant: approximately 9 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 135,000, a replica firearm, a knife, and several balaclavas. He was not alone in the vehicle—two residents of Grand-Gaube, known as Esso and Fabrice, were also apprehended at the scene.
On Thursday, the scene at the Flacq court resembled a police movie. Under heavy escort, the three suspects were led into the courtroom. 'El Capo', originally from Guyana, was surrounded by Special Supporting Unit (SSU) officers, protected by a bulletproof vest and a safety helmet. After their court appearance, they were returned to their cells, with their next hearing scheduled for November 6, 2025.
Two provisional charges have been brought against them: "Drug dealing for the purpose of distribution" and "Conspiracy to commit kidnapping."
Investigators oppose their release, citing the risks of witness tampering, evidence concealment, recidivism, or fleeing the country.
The investigation continues under the supervision of Superintendent Babajee and Inspector Seebnauth from the CID of Flacq.
