Mauritius and India Strengthen Cooperation in Advanced Medical Care

On Friday, October 31, 2025, a memorandum of understanding was signed in Ébène between the Ministry of Health and Wellness and Venkateshwar Hospital in New Delhi, India. The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Anil Bachoo, and the Deputy Minister, Ms. Anishta Babooram.

The signatories were the acting Director-General of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Parmanand Mawah, and the Director of Venkateshwar Hospital, Ankur Nagpal.

Under the memorandum of understanding, Venkateshwar Hospital will collaborate with the ministry to provide knowledge sharing on transplantation programs and offer telemedicine services to Mauritian patients.

The goal is to promote cooperation in highly specialized areas such as kidney, liver, and bone marrow transplants, while ensuring ongoing medical training and streamlined guidance services for Mauritian patients. The memorandum will also provide capacity building for Mauritian health professionals and technical assistance to modernize local clinical facilities and access advanced treatments not available in Mauritius.

In his statement, the Minister of Health emphasized that the memorandum will strengthen specialized health services through structured collaboration. He noted that Venkateshwar Hospital will serve as a well-equipped facility for various healthcare establishments across Mauritius.

Ankur Nagpal reaffirmed Venkateshwar Hospital's support for the development of advanced surgical programs in Mauritius and the training of medical and paramedical staff on the latest developments in healthcare.

Venkateshwar Hospital is a 500-bed facility offering 34 specialties, 14 centers of excellence, 100 intensive care beds, and 10 modular operating rooms. It is a renowned healthcare institution for oncology, robotic-assisted surgery, and kidney, liver, and bone marrow transplantation, providing medical and surgical care that meets global standards and best practices using advanced technologies.
