Tragedy at La Cure: Testimony of the Great-Grandmother of Little Keyan, Struck by a Driver Under the Influence of Drugs

In the grieving home of La Cure Residence, Marianne Alfred, the great-grandmother of little Keyan, 3 years old, emotionally recounts the last hours spent with him.

"He was at my place, playing with my phone and asking me to put on YouTube. I took his food and made him eat. When his father found him, he left the phone behind and told him he wouldn’t eat anymore; they went off with his dad," she confides, her voice trembling.

"His father took him in his arms and said: 'Let’s go for a little ride,'" she adds modestly. Marianne explains that Keyan visited her every day and was very attached to his family.

The grandmother recalls the moment she learned about the tragedy:

"Keyan's mother had come to pick him up. I told her: 'Keyan went for a little ride with his dad.' We were waiting for their return, but they never came back. I went out to check the road, and that’s when I learned they had been in an accident."

According to witnesses, the father and child were crossing the road to buy rotis when they were violently struck by a car.

"He was a good child, very happy to play, very lively," concludes Marianne, overwhelmed with emotion.

The driver, Kenny Lowtun, 33 years old, tested positive for drugs after the accident that occurred in Cité La Cure. Little Keyan did not survive his injuries. The autopsy attributed the death to a laceration of the liver. The driver has been arrested and detained.
