Tragedy at La Cure: The Testimony of Keyan's Great-Grandmother, Struck by a Driver Under the Influence of Drugs

In the grieving home of La Cure, Marianne Alfred, the great-grandmother of three-year-old Keyan, shares her emotional memories of the last moments spent with him.

"The child was with me; he took my phone to play and asked me to put on YouTube. I took his food away, made him eat. When his father arrived, he left the phone behind and said he wouldn’t eat anymore; he went with his father," she confides, her voice trembling.

"His father took him in his arms and said: 'Let’s go for a little ride,'" she adds modestly.

Marianne explains that Keyan visited her every day and was very attached to his family.

The grandmother recalls the moment she learned of the tragedy:

"Keyan's mother had come to get him. I told her: 'Keyan has gone for a little ride with his father.' We were waiting for their return, but they never came back. I went out to check on the road, and that’s when I learned they had had an accident."

According to witnesses, the father and child were crossing the road to buy rotis when they were violently struck by a car.

"He was a good child, very happy to play, very lively," Marianne concludes, overwhelmed with emotion.

The driver, Kenny Lowtun, 33 years old, tested positive for drugs after the accident that occurred in Cité La Cure. Little Keyan did not survive his injuries. The autopsy attributed his death to a liver laceration. The driver has been arrested and taken into custody.
