Pre-Primary Education Scheme: Free Service Extended Until 2026
The Minister of Education, Mahend Gungapersad, reassured parents, the public, and all stakeholders in early childhood that there will be no changes to the Granting Aid formula until December 31, 2026. The Free Pre-Primary Education Scheme will therefore remain in effect until that date.
Previously, authorities had mentioned a revision of the system starting January 2026. The new model proposed that private pre-primary schools would receive a monthly subsidy of Rs 2,750 per child, replacing the reimbursement of their operational costs, with parents covering the difference.
Under its current structure, the Free Pre-Primary Education Scheme enables many families to access free pre-primary education, a measure widely praised for its role in democratizing access to early childhood education.
