Rampersad Sooroojebally Remains in Command of the Police Force
Rampersad Sooroojebally remains in command of the police force. Just before the expiration of his contract, the Police Commissioner’s term has been renewed. This decision has been endorsed by the Prime Minister.
While Navin Ramgoolam faced pressure for a change in police leadership, even from within his own government, he chose to retain the current Commissioner in his position.
Rampersad Sooroojebally took charge of the Central Barracks on November 15 of last year.
His continued leadership of the police force has been at the center of political tensions, but this renewal demonstrates that the Prime Minister continues to place full confidence in him.
Rampersad Sooroojebally has over 42 years of service within the police force.
Although he retired in 2014, Navin Ramgoolam called upon him to lead the police force just days after the last general elections. This trajectory continues today with this renewal, reaffirming his position at the helm of the Central Barracks.
