A final mediation meeting is scheduled for this Saturday between Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam and Deputy Prime Minister Paul Bérenger, with Ajay Gunness present. Relations between the leader of the PTr and that of the MMM have once again become strained. The points of contention include the renewal of Police Commissioner Rampersad Sooroojebally's contract for another year, which took place on Friday, as well as electoral reform.

According to Le Défi Plus on Saturday, "unless there is a dramatic turnaround, Paul Bérenger will leave the government. On Friday evening, the leaders of his party were already informed of his intention to depart."

The MMM central committee is set to meet this Monday to discuss the party's future within the majority.
