Fight Against Cyber Violence: Launch of the 'Fam kone to drwa online' Campaign

The Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Arianne Navarre-Marie, officially launched the awareness campaign 'Fam kone to drwa online' at the Café du Vieux Conseil in Port-Louis on Monday.

The event was attended by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication, and Innovation, Avinash Ramtohul, the UN representative in Mauritius, and members of the police.

In her speech, Arianne Navarre-Marie emphasized the importance of this initiative:

"This campaign is crucial because too often, women and young girls suffer from cyber harassment. There are even cases where young people have committed suicide," she stated.

The Minister reminded that earlier this year, her ministry compiled a report containing testimonies from several women who were victims of abuse on Telegram. This report has been submitted to the Commissioner of Police.

She also stressed the need to support families:

"We are working closely with the ICT Minister to propose packages that will allow parents to be more vigilant and supervise what their children are viewing online."

The campaign aims to raise awareness among women, young girls, and parents about the risks associated with cyber violence while promoting the tools and resources available to protect themselves and report abuse.
