168 Million Rs in Six Years: Government Terminates Liverpool Academy Contract

Over 168 million rupees. This is the cost of the Liverpool FC International Academy Mauritius over six years, from 2019 to 2025.

Out of 545 young players trained, only four managed to break into professional football: three in the United States and one in France. Six others, who went to try their luck in Europe or Réunion, did not secure contracts.

These figures were shared this afternoon in the National Assembly by the Minister of Sports, Deven Nagalingum, in response to a question from MP Franco Quirin.

With a performance deemed insufficient relative to the investment made, the minister stated that the government will not renew the academy's contract and will focus on a new approach to revitalize Mauritian football.
