168 Million Rupees in Six Years: Government Ends Contract with Liverpool Academy
The cost of the Liverpool FC International Academy Mauritius over six years, from 2019 to 2025, exceeded 168 million rupees.
Out of 545 young players trained, only four have succeeded in reaching professional football: three in the United States and one in France. Six others who went to try their luck in Europe or Réunion did not secure contracts.
These figures were shared this afternoon in the National Assembly by the Minister of Sports, Deven Nagalingum, in response to a question from MP Franco Quirin.
Given the unsatisfactory results relative to the investment made, the minister stated that the government will not renew the academy's contract and will pursue a new approach to revitalize Mauritian football.
