Essential Documents for Preparing Navin Ramgoolam's Defense, According to Me Robin Ramburn
Me Robin Ramburn, one of Navin Ramgoolam's lawyers, stated, "These documents are crucial for preparing Navin Ramgoolam's defense." He added, "Our defense is about a political vendetta and that the CID was not independent."
To recap, the so-called "excessive payments" case involving Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam saw new developments this Thursday in front of the Financial Crimes Division (FCD). Judges Razia Jannoo-Jaunbocus and Abdool Raheem Tajoodeen ruled on the disclosure motion requested by the PM's defense.
In their decision, the judges ordered the disclosure of two categories of documents:
- Relevant entries from the Diary Book, if they haven’t been provided already;
- Documents related to Mutual Legal Assistance, which is deemed essential by the PM's entourage.
All other disclosure requests were rejected, as the Court deemed them irrelevant to the current trial. The case has been scheduled pro forma for December 16, 2025.
