Wage Compensation: Tengur Calls for Inflation Adjustment at 5.2%
In an open letter published on Thursday, November 27, Suttyhudeo Tengur, president of the Association for the Protection of the Environment and Consumer (APEC), demands a "fairer" approach to wage compensation for 2026. He proposes that it be calculated based on the year-on-year inflation rate, estimated at 5.2%, rather than the overall forecast of 3.7%.
According to him, this approach would better protect the purchasing power of employees earning less than Rs 50,000. "Granting compensation based on a real inflation rate of 5.2% would not only be fair but also strategically wise," he writes.
Suttyhudeo Tengur emphasizes that the official consumption basket does not fully reflect the price increases observed, especially for food, household, and essential goods. He asserts that the gap between the official inflation rate and the reality experienced by families makes a more equitable compensation imperative.
"This is a measure of social justice, support for vulnerable households, and a boost to domestic demand. A compensation aligned with 5.2% would be a responsible and future-oriented decision," he concludes.
