Salary Compensation: Tengur Calls for an Indexation to Inflation at 5.2%

In an open letter published on Thursday, November 27, Suttyhudeo Tengur, president of the Association for the Protection of the Environment and Consumer (APEC), demands a "fairer" approach to salary compensation for 2026. He suggests that it should be calculated based on an annual inflation rate of 5.2%, rather than the overall forecast of 3.7%.

According to him, this approach would better protect the purchasing power of employees earning less than Rs 50,000. "Granting compensation based on a real inflation rate of 5.2% would not only be fair but also strategically wise," he writes.

Suttyhudeo Tengur emphasizes that the official consumption basket does not fully reflect the price increases observed, particularly for food, household, and essential goods. He asserts that the gap between official inflation and the reality experienced by families makes a fairer compensation imperative.

"This is a measure of social justice, support for vulnerable households, and a boost to domestic demand. Compensation aligned with 5.2% would be a responsible and forward-looking decision," he concludes.
