A 12-Year-Old Steals a Car - His Mother: "Let Him Be Placed in a Shelter to Prevent Recidivism"
A 12-year-old boy has stolen a car, leading his mother to call for him to be placed in a shelter to avoid repeating his mistakes. This plea comes as the boy is under investigation for car theft and a hit-and-run incident.
According to police sources, this marks the third time that the minor has been involved in offenses related to vehicle theft and road accidents.
The latest incident occurred yesterday morning when he stole a car in Quatre-Bornes and then got involved in a hit-and-run in Rose-Hill. He was eventually intercepted by the police in Beau-Bassin. The accident resulted in injuries to two individuals — a woman and her son, who were in another vehicle. The boy had been reported missing since Friday.
He was handed over to the police in Quatre-Bornes in the presence of his mother for the ongoing investigation. Investigators are now trying to understand how he managed to drive the vehicle from Quatre-Bornes to Beau-Bassin via Rose-Hill. The minor is currently hospitalized for treatment.
