Jet Ski Accident: Young Mauritian Woman Dies in Dubai
A 17-year-old Mauritian girl, Saniah Hobass, tragically lost her life in a jet ski accident in Dubai. She had been on vacation in the emirate since December 3 with her cousin when the incident occurred at sea near Jumeirah.
Saniah, hailing from Rose-Hill, did not survive the accident. Her cousin, who was also on the jet ski, suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Rashid Hospital. Local authorities are currently investigating to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this tragedy. The news has deeply affected Saniah's family and friends back in Mauritius, especially as December 8 marked her birthday.
Showkutally Soodhun: "I support the family"
Currently in Dubai, former Mauritian ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain, Showkutally Soodhun, stated that he has been in contact with the family. "I am supporting the family as best as I can and reaching out to the Dubai authorities for assistance. This is a true tragedy. It is very heartbreaking," he said after meeting with the family on Monday evening. He also visited the hospital.
Ritish Ramful: "We are closely monitoring the situation"
Foreign Minister Ritish Ramful reported that he was informed of the tragedy during a meeting. "We are closely monitoring the situation. I am following up with our officials on the ground in Dubai. Our consul is taking the necessary steps to repatriate the body," he said.
