Sydney Attack: The 'Hero' Who Disarmed a Shooter Receives Praise from Australia to Trump
In the aftermath of the attack in Sydney, the courage of the 'hero' who disarmed a gunman during a deadly assault at a beach, described by authorities as 'anti-Semitic' and 'terrorist', has been recognized, with his act going viral worldwide through video footage.
Following the incident at the famous Bondi Beach in Sydney, videos surfaced on social media, quickly going viral. They show a man tackling one of the shooters as he opens fire.
The man manages to wrest the weapon from the shooter's hands and points it back at him as the assailant retreats.
"This is an extremely brave person who confronted one of the shooters and saved many lives. This very courageous individual is currently hospitalized, critically injured," commented Donald Trump from the White House.
"Amidst all this horror, amidst all this sadness, there are still wonderful and brave Australians willing to risk their lives to help a complete stranger," reacted Chris Minns, the Premier of New South Wales.
Local media outlet 7News identified him as Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old fruit vendor, and reported that he had been shot twice.
The media spoke to a man named Mustapha, who claims to be his cousin. "He is in the hospital, and we do not know exactly what is happening inside," he stated. "We hope he recovers well. He is a 100% hero."
Online, Ahmed al Ahmed has been celebrated for his bravery and quick response.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also hailed him and others as "heroes."
Authorities reported that the assailants killed 15 people and injured many others during Sunday’s attack, one of the worst of its kind in Australia in years.
