Blood Donation: A Call for National Solidarity on December 17
A call for national solidarity is being made this Wednesday, December 17, in Port Louis. The Mega Blood Donation aims to strengthen the blood bank's reserves ahead of the festive season, with a target of collecting 1,500 pints together. The Blood Donors Association invites the public to participate in the Mega Blood Donation event, which will take place from 6:30 AM to 6 PM at the esplanade of Port Louis Town Hall, as well as on Rue du Vieux-Conseil. The objective is to bolster the blood bank's reserves as the end-of-year celebrations approach. The theme of this initiative is "A country united by blood." Donating blood is an act of solidarity and collective responsibility.
Dewanand Hossen, the president of the Blood Donors Association, once again calls for the mobilization of Mauritians, aiming to reach 1,500 pints of blood. "This is an achievable goal considering past results: last year, 1,520 pints were collected," he noted. Radio Plus is a key partner for this event, having supported the Mega Blood Donation for twenty-three years.
The Radio Plus team will cover the event from 6 AM to 4:30 PM, featuring several presenters who will host live broadcasts throughout the day to raise awareness and encourage the public to participate. Venen Coolen, the station's director, emphasizes that this mobilization is fully aligned with the social role of the radio. He highlights, "This presence allows us to concretely contribute to a national cause by engaging Radio Plus's loyal listeners around an act that can save lives."
The Mega Blood Donation is particularly significant due to the increased demand for blood during the festive period. The association encourages greater participation from young people, as there is a gradual aging of regular donors.
