Chikungunya: Strengthened Preventive Measures to Limit Spread
Chikungunya: Strengthened Preventive Measures to Limit Spread
On December 17, 2025, it was reported that a second case of chikungunya has been confirmed in Plaisance, Rose-Hill, following one in Roche-Brunes. In response, health authorities have swiftly activated necessary preventive measures to mitigate any risk of further transmission.
An active case search is underway in the area, which includes contact tracing. Public health teams are mobilized to ensure heightened surveillance and to respond promptly to any new reports.
Dr. Fazil Khodabocus, interim director of health services, noted that chikungunya cases typically occur during March and April. However, this year, initial cases have started emerging as early as December, a situation he attributes to climate change.
In light of this, Dr. Fazil Khodabocus urges the public to exercise increased caution and to diligently follow preventive measures to reduce the risk of mosquito proliferation.
