Closed Hearing of Tevin Sithanen at the Curepipe Court
Tevin Sithanen appeared in a closed hearing at the Curepipe Court on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. When the case was called before Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth, the police officer present in the courtroom informed journalists that they were not permitted to attend the proceedings, as directed by the magistrate. The doors to the courtroom were then closed.
Tevin Sithanen, son of Rama Sithanen, former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, is facing a provisional charge for "breach of the Information and Communication Technologies Act (ICTA)." This charge stems from an audio recording attributed to Sithanen, which has circulated on social media and allegedly contains threatening remarks against Aditi Boolell and Stéphane Adam, executives of Menlo Park Ltd.
During the hearing on Wednesday, the motion of the day concerned the dismissal of the provisional charge. The defense argued that there was no "reasonable suspicion" justifying this provisional charge. They pointed out that the original audio recording was never produced by the complainant, Aditi Boolell, who relied on a file already circulating on social media, which could have been altered, manipulated, or generated by artificial intelligence.
The hearing is still ongoing.
The press was eventually allowed to attend Tevin Sithanen's hearing starting at 11:55 AM. ASP Balmick Dussoye from the AML Unit is currently on the witness stand. He is the lead investigator in this case.
