Curepipe Court: The Provisional Charge Against Tevin Sithanen at the Center of Discussions
Tevin Sithanen appeared in Curepipe Court on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, in a partially closed hearing. Upon the case being called before Magistrate Shavina Jugnauth, the police officer present in the courtroom informed journalists that they were not allowed to attend the proceedings, based on the Court's instructions. The doors to the courtroom were then closed. However, representatives of the press were allowed to re-enter the courtroom starting at 11:55 AM, at which point the hearing continued in their presence.
Tevin Sithanen, son of Rama Sithanen, former governor of the Bank of Mauritius, faces a provisional charge for violating the Information and Communication Technologies Act (ICTA). This charge stems from an audio recording attributed to the defendant, which was circulated on social media, allegedly containing threatening remarks against Aditi Boolell and Stéphane Adam, executives of Menlo Park Ltd.
The motion of the day concerned the dismissal of the provisional charge, with the defense arguing that there was no reasonable suspicion, as the original recording was never produced, and the file could have been altered or generated by artificial intelligence.
ASP Balmick Dussoye from the Anti-Money Laundering unit stated that the Quintel Intelligence report submitted by Tevin Sithanen is yet to be authenticated. He clarified that the opinion of the Director of Public Prosecutions has been sought.
The pleas on the motion have been scheduled for January 23, 2025.
