Vision 2050 – Dr. Jyoti Jeetun: "A Long-term Vision to Inspire Confidence in Households and Investors"
On Thursday, December 18, 2025, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam launched national consultations on Vision 2050 at the Paul Octave Wiehe auditorium in Reduit. These consultations, which will last for four months, are part of a long-term strategic planning exercise aligned with the government program for 2025-2029. The aim is to establish a foundation for transitioning the country from an upper-middle-income status to a high-income status through an inclusive and sustainable program.
In her speech, Dr. Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, emphasized the significance of Vision 2050 in enabling the government to make substantial progress, as demonstrated by advancements made by countries like Dubai and Rwanda, among others.
She noted that during the consultations, national dialogues would be held across all districts. Sectoral roundtables would be organized with businesses, professional associations, and universities, alongside youth forums and the involvement of civil society and non-governmental organizations.
The government will also work with the private sector as a key partner in investment, innovation, and job creation, thereby aligning long-term public planning with the private sector's long-term strategy.
Dr. Jyoti Jeetun observed that a long-term vision extending to 2050 would clearly outline the country's economic transformation towards achieving high-income status, ensure policy coordination, and provide visibility to households, investors, and development partners, allowing them to plan with confidence. She stressed the importance of leveraging strategic opportunities offered by countries such as China, India, and the African continent, as well as others like France, the UK, and the USA.
