Piton Detention Centre: Inmate Found Dead in Cell

An inmate at the Piton Detention Centre was found dead in his cell on Tuesday, December 23. The 30-year-old had been arrested the previous week by the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) for thefts in the northern part of the country. After being hospitalized following his arrest, he was discharged on Monday, December 22, before being transferred back into detention.

Prior to his arrest, the man was caught red-handed stealing by members of the public. He was subsequently lynched before being handed over to the authorities. He was admitted to the hospital and then placed in the Piton Detention Centre upon his discharge.

On Monday afternoon, the inmate was interrogated by the police regarding several theft cases and confessed. While still in detention, he was found dead on Tuesday. An autopsy is scheduled for the afternoon.
