Piton: Darren Rungasamy Dies in Police Cell

Darren Rungasamy, who passed away at the Piton Detention Centre this Tuesday, is scheduled for an autopsy later this evening. At 30 years old, he was arrested last week by the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) in connection with theft cases in the northern part of the country. After being hospitalized following his arrest, he was released on December 22 before being placed in detention.

Before his arrest, he was caught in the act of theft by members of the public and was subjected to a lynching before being handed over to the authorities.

On Monday afternoon, he was interrogated by the police and made confessions regarding several theft cases. While in custody, he was found dead this Tuesday.
