Beltrami Bolzalo Kemayou also attacked three other people
A series of brutal assaults shook the northern part of the island on Sunday. A 24-year-old Cameroonian is accused of killing his wife before attacking several other victims.
The northern region of the island experienced a murderous frenzy. The Cameroonian national, Beltrami Bolzalo Kemayou, aged 24, is accused of killing his wife, throwing their six-month-old infant into a trash bin, and violently assaulting three other individuals. He arrived in the country on February 23, 2023, and his visa expired on May 25, 2023.
On Sunday morning, the bloody corpse of Sivanee Saminaden, a 29-year-old office worker, was discovered in a rental house by the owners, with police present. Since the night of New Year’s Eve, December 31, violent disputes had erupted between the couple living on the main road of Saint-François in Petit-Raffray. Armed with a duplicate set of keys, the owners let the police into the premises, where they found the victim's body in the bedroom. An autopsy determined that the young woman died from "manual strangulation."
The infant, rescued after being found in a trash bin by tenants, was admitted to an observation room at the Northern Hospital after undergoing a CT scan. Sivanee Saminaden's funeral took place on Monday at her parents’ home in Réduit, attended by devastated relatives. Grieving and inconsolable, they declined to comment on this marital tragedy that has cast a shadow over their family at the start of 2026.
The suspect also made three other victims. Violent scenes occurred on the public beach of La Mare-La-Raie in Grand-Gaube, in the north of the island, where the Cameroonian national spread terror shortly after fatally attacking his wife.
In the early hours of Sunday, January 4, a 16-year-old teenager, who was camping on this public beach with family members, was assaulted by Beltrami Bolzalo Kemayou, who was armed with a sharp object. He threatened the minor before throwing him into the lagoon.
The teenager was quickly rescued by his aunt, but she was also attacked by the Cameroonian, who struck her on the lips. Both victims required medical treatment at SSRN Hospital in Pamplemousses. Alerted, members of the public confronted the suspect and beat him for his acts of gratuitous violence. Subsequently, he was evacuated to the hospital in a state of unconsciousness in an ambulance.
An hour earlier, the same suspect is accused of having savagely assaulted a French national residing in Cap-Malheureux. She was driving her car on the main road at an intersection in Calodyne. While waiting at a red light, she reported that the Cameroonian suddenly opened the doors of her vehicle, assaulted her, and bit her on the nose and lips. Bleeding profusely, she screamed for help while the assailant fled. The victim was later taken to a private clinic, where she remains hospitalized. Her health status is considered concerning.
The suspect remains hospitalized under police surveillance after being attacked by members of the public. Since Monday, the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) has taken over the case. Once his health stabilizes and he receives discharge clearance, Beltrami Bolzalo Kemayou will face a provisional murder charge before the Pamplemousses court.
