Weather Update: Heavy Rain Advisory in Effect Until 10 AM on Friday, January 30

A heavy rain advisory is in effect in Mauritius and will remain valid until 10 AM on Friday, January 30, 2026. Active clouds that were influencing the weather have moved to the east of the island. However, other active clouds coming from the northern sector may affect local weather conditions starting this afternoon.

According to the bulletin issued by the Vacoas Meteorological Station on Thursday morning, the weather will be cloudy this morning with occasional moderate showers. These showers may become locally heavy from this afternoon and may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

Water accumulation is likely in flood-prone areas.

Visibility will be reduced at times due to fog and under the showers.

The maximum temperature will be below the seasonal average, ranging from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius in the central plateau and between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius in coastal areas.

The minimum temperature will range from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius in the central plateau and from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius along the coast.

The wind will be light and variable, strengthening at times with gusts during the showers.

The sea will be rough beyond the reefs, with swells from the southwest reaching about 2 meters, gradually becoming stronger in the afternoon.

Going out to sea is discouraged from this afternoon.

Public Advisories:

  • Stay sheltered and avoid low-lying areas, hiking, going out to sea, and do not seek shelter under trees during thunderstorms;
  • Avoid areas prone to water accumulation;
  • Exercise extreme caution on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by heavy showers and fog.
