Weather Alert: Heavy Rain Advisory Continues Until 10 AM This Friday, Improvement Expected in the Afternoon

A heavy rain advisory remains in effect for Mauritius until 10 AM this Friday, January 30. Active clouds from the northern sector will influence local weather starting this evening. This was stated in a press release issued by the Mauritius Meteorological Station at 4:30 PM on Thursday, January 29.

The sky will be cloudy from this evening until tomorrow morning, with showers expected. These will be moderate to occasionally heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms. Water accumulation is likely in flood-prone areas.

Fog patches are also forecasted in certain regions.

A gradual improvement in weather conditions is expected tomorrow afternoon.

Winds will be light and variable during the night but will strengthen under showers with gusts. It will blow from the northeast at about 20 km/h tomorrow.

The public is advised to:

  • Stay sheltered and avoid plains, hiking, sea outings, and refrain from seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms;
  • Avoid areas prone to water accumulation;
  • Exercise caution on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by heavy showers and fog.

A tropical depression is currently developing in the Mozambique Channel. As of 4 PM, it was centered around latitude 15.7 degrees south and longitude 42.2 degrees east.
