Bail Application: Mamy Ravatomanga Faces Double Objection

The request from Malagasy businessman Maminiaina "Mamy" Ravatomanga was heard before Chief Judge Bibi Rehana Mungly-Gulbul this Monday at the Supreme Court.

Absent from the proceedings, Mamy Ravatomanga was represented by Senior Attorney Me Ayesha Jeewa. The complaint challenges the decision made by the Bail and Remand Court which denied the businessman’s bail application on December 30, 2025.

During the hearing, Me Ayesha Jeewa submitted an "amended motion paper" to rectify an irregularity identified in the previous hearing. This amendment seeks to officially add the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) as the fourth defendant.

Speaking for the FCC, Bibi Mahejabeen Chatoo stated that they contest the application on its merits. She requested a postponement to file a responding affidavit.

Meanwhile, Rasmi Camiah, Chief State Attorney, representing the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Police Commissioner, also expressed their opposition to the request on its merits. She too sought an adjournment to consider if an affidavit should be filed in this matter.

In light of these circumstances, the Court has scheduled a follow-up for February 16, 2026.

For context, Mamy Ravatomanga is appealing to the Supreme Court against the refusal of his bail application, as he faces preliminary charges of money laundering and conspiracy. He is currently held at the high-security prison in Melrose.

Additionally, on February 2, 2026, Mamy Ravatomanga did not appear via video conference before the Bail and Remand Court due to being taken to Victoria Hospital in Candos for a consultation, according to the Prison Officer assigned to Melrose Prison. He is set to appear again before the BRC on February 23, 2026, facing two preliminary charges of money laundering and one charge of conspiracy.
