Accused of Collusion: Court Denies Sanjiv Ramdanee's Travel Request
On February 2, 2026, Sanjiv Kailash Ramdanee, the brother-in-law of former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, was denied permission by the Port Louis court to travel to Spain via Dubai from February 3 to 9, 2026. The court concluded that the CEO of Dhyanavartam Ltd did not demonstrate an absolute necessity for this trip.
Arrested on December 2, 2025, by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), Sanjiv Kailash Ramdanee faces a provisional charge of collusion in the Port Louis court. He is accused of conspiring with Premchand Mungur, the former CEO and chairman of the Management Credit Forum (MCF) of the State Bank of Mauritius Ltd (SBM), to facilitate the release of a loan of Rs 470 million by SBM Ltd to Dhyanavartam Ltd. This offense allegedly took place on July 16, 2014, at the SBM Bank in Port Louis, according to the FCC.
Ramdanee intended to travel to Barcelona, Spain, via Dubai to attend an exhibition organized by Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) and to meet with exhibitors. The FCC opposed his request, arguing that he might flee.
During the hearings, Acting Chief Investigator Vishal Deepchand explained that the investigation had concluded, and the case file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for review on January 15, 2026. The investigator mentioned that Maradiva Villa Resorts and Spa was facing profitability issues and had been placed under voluntary administration in June 2025.
In her ruling, Magistrate Shaaheen Dawreeawoo noted that in today’s technological context, discussions, negotiations, and demonstrations can be conducted virtually. Therefore, Sanjiv Kailash Ramdanee's physical presence in Barcelona is not essential. She also pointed out that the documents submitted by him to support his request were filled with inconsistencies. Thus, there is no absolute need for Pravind Jugnauth's brother-in-law to travel, leading to the decision to deny his request.
