Weather: A Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Rodrigues
The Vacoas weather station has issued a heavy rain alert for Rodrigues at 4 PM this Saturday, March 14. This alert is valid until tomorrow, Sunday, March 15, at 4 PM.
"Active clouds associated with the monsoon trough will begin to influence local weather starting tonight. Showers will become frequent and intense, accompanied by thunderstorms tomorrow. Pockets of fog are also expected in some areas," stated the meteorological service in a press release issued this afternoon.
Temporary water accumulations are anticipated in flood-prone areas.
The public is advised to:
- Stay indoors and avoid low-lying areas, hiking, sea outings, and seeking shelter under trees during thunderstorms;
- Avoid fords;
- Exercise extreme caution on the roads due to reduced visibility caused by heavy showers and fog.
The situation is being closely monitored by the meteorological services of Mauritius.
