Showers and Storms Expected This Thursday
A weather alert for heavy rainfall is in effect in Mauritius until 8 PM this Thursday. Atmospheric conditions are unstable in our region. Generally, it will be partly cloudy this morning with occasional showers in the East and on the highlands. Moderate to heavy localized showers with thunderstorms are expected this afternoon over the western half of the island and the Central Plateau. These showers will spread to other areas in the evening. Visibility will be reduced due to fog and showers. Water accumulation is likely in flood-prone areas in the western region.
The sky will clear towards late evening, and it will be pleasant overnight. An east wind will blow at approximately 15 km/h, becoming variable during the night. The sea will be rough beyond the reefs with waves around 2 meters. South-west swells are expected starting tonight.
The public is advised to stay safe and avoid plains, hiking, sea outings, and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms, to steer clear of areas prone to water accumulation, and to exercise caution on the roads due to reduced visibility from heavy showers and fog.
The maximum temperature will be slightly above average, ranging from 26 to 29 degrees Celsius in the highlands and from 31 to 34 degrees Celsius in coastal regions. The minimum temperature will range from 20 to 22 degrees Celsius on the Central Plateau and from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius on the coast.
