Mauritius/United States Relations: The Role of Exchange Program Beneficiaries Highlighted
The 250th anniversary of the United States was celebrated at Macarty House in Floréal on March 26, 2026. The event brought together guests, including alumni from the Alumni Network.
Beth Creason, the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy, emphasized the significance of the event and the honor of hosting the guests at the residence.
Craig Halbmaier, the Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, expressed his gratitude to the attendees and noted the importance of human connections in the relationship between Mauritius and the United States. "It's a big year for us. We are about to celebrate our 250th anniversary, and this event fits perfectly into our festivities leading up to July 4th," he stated.
He also highlighted the essential role of members of the alumni network from the exchange programs, who represent a true asset for the embassy and the ties between the two countries. "You are the strength of the U.S. Embassy, and you are the true cornerstone of our partnership," he added.
Exchange Programs
A highlight of the evening was the exchange between former and future participants of the exchange programs. Success stories were shared, with participants discussing their experiences of study and work in the United States, as well as the lasting impact these experiences have had on their lives and careers.
"The bridges you build and the understanding you share are invaluable. You are living proof of the strength of these programs," concluded the Chargé d'Affaires. He thanked those present for their commitment and participation.
He also extended his warmest wishes to the Mauritian nation, highlighting the importance of the bilateral relationship and mutual exchange between the United States and Mauritius. He reminded everyone of the significance of perseverance, overcoming challenges, and innovation—themes that resonate deeply in both the United States and Mauritius.
Craig Halbmaier invited future alumni to ask practical questions about life in the United States. This was a light but essential moment to prepare for future exchanges.
The event continued in a friendly atmosphere, with lively discussions and enriching cultural exchanges, centered around friendship and cooperation.
