On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States, celebrated on July 4th, an event was held at Macarty House in Floréal on Thursday, March 26, 2026. The reception brought together several guests, including members of the Alumni Network.
Beth Creason, the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Mauritius, emphasized the significance of the event and the honor of hosting the guests at the residence.
The Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, Craig Halbmaier, expressed his gratitude to those present, highlighting the importance of human connections in the partnership between Mauritius and the United States.
"This is a significant year for us. We are on the verge of celebrating our 250th anniversary, and this event is fully part of the series of festivities leading up to July 4th," he stated.
He also spoke about the essential role of former exchange program beneficiaries, whom he considers a major asset for the embassy and for strengthening ties between the two countries. "You are the strength of the U.S. Embassy and the cornerstone of our partnership," he added.
One of the highlights of the evening was the exchange between former and future participants of the exchange programs. Several testimonies were shared, shedding light on inspiring journeys and the lasting impact of these experiences on personal and professional paths.
"The bridges you build and the understanding you foster are invaluable. You are living proof of the strength of these programs," concluded the Charge d’Affaires, thanking the audience for their commitment.
He also extended his best wishes to the Mauritian nation, emphasizing the importance of the bilateral relationship and exchanges between the two countries. He underscored shared values such as perseverance, the ability to overcome challenges, and innovation.
Finally, Craig Halbmaier invited future alumni to ask practical questions about life in the United States, addressing daily aspects such as electrical adapters, water consumption, and certain cultural habits. It was a friendly and informative moment to prepare for future exchanges.
