Easter 2026: Bishop Jean Michaël Durhône Calls to Shift from Fear to Hope

On the occasion of Easter, the Bishop of Port Louis, Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône, invites Mauritians to embrace hope despite the uncertainties both locally and internationally.

In his message, he reminds us that the Lenten season, though sometimes challenging, is also a time for spiritual renewal, highlighted by the baptism of new believers. Drawing on the message of the Resurrection, he urges the faithful not to succumb to fear but to proclaim a "good news" that brings life.

Referring to the war in the Middle East, the rising cost of living, and political tensions in Mauritius, the bishop acknowledges the concerns that permeate society. However, he calls for prioritizing dialogue, solidarity, and faith to overcome these trials.

Mgr Durhône also emphasizes the tangible acts of assistance within the country, mentioning Caritas Ile Maurice, the Drwa enn Lakaz team, and St Mary’s West College, as signs of active hope in action.

During this Easter season, he invites everyone, regardless of their religious affiliations, to become a "pilgrim of hope" in a world seeking direction.
