Mgr Durhône: "The Current Political Crisis Raises Concerns"
Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône, the bishop of Port-Louis, delivered his Easter message focusing on the local political crisis and the ongoing war in the Middle East, highlighting its repercussions on the Mauritian economy. He stated, "The current political crisis raises concerns." He explained that when tensions arise among political actors, it can weaken the trust citizens have in institutions.
Addressing the conflict in the Middle East, the bishop urged for prayers that dialogue prevails over confrontation. He noted, "Our country is feeling the impacts of this war. Prices are soaring, and fear is spreading among Mauritian families. This raises the question of the fragility of the Mauritian economy, which is dependent on the international situation." However, Mgr Durhône believes that periods of crisis can also serve as moments for reflection and reassessment.
