Navin Ramgoolam: "No Need for a Deputy Prime Minister"
"No need for a Deputy Prime Minister," declared Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. He was responding to a question from Radio Plus following the celebration of Tamil New Year at MGI this Tuesday regarding the position of Deputy Prime Minister, which has been vacant since Paul Bérenger's resignation. According to the head of government, there is no formal position of Deputy Prime Minister.
As a reminder, Shakeel Mohamed will serve as acting Deputy Prime Minister for five days while Navin Ramgoolam travels to the Republic of Congo to attend the inauguration ceremony of Denis Sassou N’Guesso, scheduled for tomorrow.
The head of government was also asked about the Chagos issue, which is currently pending with the British government. "We'll talk about it when I return to parliament," he replied.
