Menlo Park Case: Second Arrest for Deepshika Gowreesunkur

Deepshika Gowreesunkur, a former Relationship Executive at MCB, was arrested on Wednesday, April 15, by the Anti-Money Laundering Unit (AMLU) of the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID). She was interrogated in the presence of her lawyer, Me Ruben Mooroongapillay, and was released on bail, expected to be provisionally charged with money laundering on Thursday.

The police allege that she received part of the funds deposited into her bank account from Menlo Park Ltd, a company that had secured a financial aid of one million dollars, equivalent to Rs 45 million, from the Mauritius Investment Corporation (MIC).

In May 2025, the former banker had already been apprehended by the AMLU, suspected of "conspiracy to pervert the course of justice." She was released by the Pamplemousses court on a bail of Rs 5,000. Since the start of the CCID investigation, several prominent figures have been arrested: former Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy, former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius (BoM) Harvesh Seegolam, Jitendra Bissessur, former Managing Director of the MIC, as well as Stéphane Adam and his sister Mary Queenie Adam, both directors of Menlo Park Ltd. The case revolves around allegations of undue pressure.

Former officials of the BoM and MIC have implicated the ex-Finance Minister, accusing him of leveraging his influence to approve a funding request that the MIC had initially rejected as too risky. This decision was eventually overturned, leading to the approval of one million dollars, a portion of which, according to investigators, passed through private accounts, including that of Deepshika Gowreesunkur.
