Solar Energy: CEB Launches a New Plan for Households

The Central Electricity Board (CEB) has launched the Solar Photovoltaic Scheme, designed for individuals looking to install solar panels. Applications have been open for two days. The program allows households to install, at their own expense, a photovoltaic system with a mandatory battery to store energy for evening use.

Interested parties must fill out a form with the CEB and pay a processing fee of Rs 2,000. The maximum allowed capacity is 10 kilowatts per household. Beneficiaries can use their own production to reduce their electricity bill or sell the surplus back to the CEB at approximately Rs 4.20 per kilowatt/hour. This initiative aligns with the national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy to 60% by 2035.
