Armed Robbery at Dr. Modun's: Hans Kissoon Arrested
Hans Kissoon, a 34-year-old known to the police, was arrested on Monday, April 20, in Bon-Accueil. He is suspected of being involved in the attack and robbery targeting Dr. Ramesh Modun, which occurred on Saturday at the doctor's home in Coromandel.
The arrest was carried out by police officers and CID members from Brisée-Verdière, under the supervision of inspectors Kishtoo and Rujub, along with Sergeant Mehess and Constable Augustin.
According to gathered information, the suspect was in the process of attacking a merchant in this Eastern village at the time of his apprehension. He is expected to be interrogated soon by the CID of Coromandel as part of the investigation into Dr. Modun's assault.
Hans Kissoon is already known to the police for several cases of armed robberies across various divisions in the country.
On Saturday, 77-year-old neurosurgeon Dr. Ramesh Modun, who practices privately, was the victim of an aggravated robbery at his home in Coromandel, near Beau-Bassin. Two individuals, pretending to be in distress, approached him.
"They were asking for help. Being sensitive to such situations, I wanted to assist them. But it was a setup to mislead me," he shared on Monday afternoon from a private clinic, where he remains under observation.
Under the threat of a sharp weapon, the doctor was forced to hand over money. The assailants took Rs 14,000, foreign currency, and an additional Rs 70,000. Before fleeing, they tied the doctor to a sofa with a sheet, leaving him injured.
