Public Health: The Village of Triolet Establishes a Specialized Center for Diabetic Patients
On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, a Diabetes and Vascular Health Center was inaugurated at the Mediclinic in Triolet, marking a significant step towards enhancing health services for patients with diabetes and related vascular conditions.
The ceremony was led by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Anil Bachoo; the Minister of Local Government, Ranjiv Woochit; the Acting Regional Director of Health, Dr. Vinod Kumar Dwarkasingh Allgoo; and other notable figures.
The Center provides a comprehensive range of services under one roof, including retinal screening for diabetics, a diabetes education room, family planning services, dietary counseling, and a foot care clinic for diabetics, among others. This facility aims to improve early detection, optimize disease management, and reduce complications associated with diabetes.
In his speech, the Health Minister emphasized that diabetes remains one of the country's most pressing health challenges, noting that nearly one in five adults lives with the disease. He further highlighted that approximately one in three individuals with diabetes is unaware of their condition, delaying diagnosis and increasing the risk of severe complications such as kidney failure, blindness, and amputations. He stressed the urgency of enhancing both treatment and prevention efforts.
Anil Bachoo also underscored the importance of prevention, stating that new measures are being implemented to strengthen early screening and support individuals at risk of developing diabetes. He announced that structured programs are being established to help newly diagnosed patients better manage their condition and, in some cases, achieve remission, thereby reducing the long-term impact of the disease on individuals and the healthcare system.
