Fifth Day of Hunger Strike: Jean-Maurice Jean-Pierre Calls for a Land Restitution Law

Jean-Maurice Jean-Pierre is on his fifth day of a hunger strike, which began Saturday outside the Saint-Louis Cathedral, to protest what he describes as "historical injustices" related to land dispossession in Mauritius. He aims to draw the authorities' attention to the grievances faced by several families over generations.

The president of the Justice and Truth Association claims that no concrete measures have been implemented to address the demands raised by his movement. He is calling for the introduction of a law named the "Restitution and Historical Justice Act," which he believes would address land expropriation issues within a legal framework.

Jean-Maurice Jean-Pierre also mentions that he has already submitted a document to the Ministry of Lands and Housing, along with a letter requesting the Prime Minister to present this proposal to Parliament.

In light of the unsatisfactory responses, he states that he had no choice but to resort to this action to make his voice heard.
