Horse Racing - GRA: Chairperson Veeshal Chumroo Resigns

Breaking news: Veeshal Chumroo has stepped down from his position as Chairperson of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA). The individual in question has confirmed the news and reportedly informed Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam about his resignation.

Currently, he has chosen not to disclose the reasons for his departure.

It has come to our attention that a GRA board meeting took place on Friday, April 24, in the late afternoon, but no information has been released so far.

Since his appointment to this role in January 2025, he faced various allegations, and his position was challenged within the regulatory body itself. Notably, he was accused of using a Porsche belonging to a bookmaker, which he allegedly drove for several days as part of a test for a potential purchase from a dealership.

This matter has been reported to the Financial Crimes Commission.

A practicing lawyer, he took office in January 2025.
