Port-Louis Court: Four Chinese Nationals Returned to Police Custody

Four Chinese nationals, one man and three women, who were arrested on Monday, April 27, by the CID of Port-Louis North, appeared in Port-Louis Court on Tuesday, April 28. They are suspected of being involved in a scam network related to fake fortune-telling sessions targeting victims in Mauritius. Following their court appearance, they were returned to police custody.

To recall, the investigation was initiated after a complaint was filed on April 21 by a victim. She claims that she was approached in Port-Louis by a woman posing as a fortune-teller. The woman allegedly convinced her to hand over jewelry and money for a supposed special prayer before disappearing with her accomplices.

The four suspects were intercepted near the Victoria Terminal metro station in Caudan.

During their interrogations, with an interpreter present, they admitted their involvement in this case.

A search conducted at their accommodation in Trou-aux-Biches allowed the CID of Port-Louis North to seize jewelry, over 30,000 rupees, and foreign currencies, including pounds sterling, euros, and US dollars.
