Judicial Inquiry: A Prison Officer Relates His Last Conversation with John Mick Martingale
In front of the Rose-Hill court on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the judicial inquiry into the death of John Mick Martingale continued with the testimony of Emmanuel Constant, a Prison Officer.
Emmanuel Constant, assigned to the Beau-Bassin prison, explained that he participated in a search of cell 71 on the instructions of the Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, Ramtolla, to locate a mobile phone. He acknowledged that no information had been communicated to the control room beforehand, noting that it was at the discretion of his superior.
The witness stated that he entered the cell "alone" and had a "civilized" conversation with John Mick Martingale.
According to him, the inmate ultimately handed over the phone and its accessories without any resistance.
The case has been adjourned until May 6, 2026.
