SeaBrew Solar Farm Project Takes a Major Step Forward and Accelerates Implementation in Amaury
The SeaBrew Solar Farm project in Amaury is making significant progress. During a site visit on April 21, SeaBrew Solar Ltd announced that it has reached two critical milestones: securing all necessary permits with the support of relevant authorities and finalizing banking support with MCB since December 2025. These two foundational steps ensure the realization of this major national energy infrastructure.
Led by a consortium of responsible producers within the IBL Group, which includes Phoenix Beverages Ltd, Froid des Mascareignes Ltd, and Marine Biotechnology Products Ltd, with IBL Energy as the technical and operational leader, the project is part of ongoing energy transition initiatives in Mauritius.
On the ground, progress is already well underway. With over 50% completion, construction structures are in place, and photovoltaic panels are being progressively installed. Located close to a 66 kV substation of the Central Electricity Board, the plant will benefit from direct and optimized integration into the national grid, thereby enhancing its strategic role in the country's energy supply.
With an installed capacity of 18.447 MWp and comprising 28,824 photovoltaic panels, SeaBrew Solar Farm is expected to generate an average of 26 GWh of renewable electricity annually over the next 20 years, starting from its expected commissioning at the end of August 2026. This production will be equivalent to the combined annual consumption of the industrial facilities of Phoenix Beverages, Froid des Mascareignes, and Marine Biotechnology Products, while preventing nearly 25,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year.
"This project is part of the national efforts to support the energy transition. It illustrates the private sector's ability to contribute concretely to structural initiatives in partnership with authorities. In an international context marked by uncertainties in energy markets, investing in renewable solutions is a significant leverage to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and strengthen the energy resilience of Mauritius. Through SeaBrew, we are contributing to reducing our carbon footprint while actively supporting the country's energy transition," says Bernard Theys, Chief Executive Officer of Phoenix Beverages Ltd.
"The comprehensive securing of the regulatory and financial framework confirms the project's robustness and the professionalism of the teams from the early phases of development. The current level of progress demonstrates IBL Energy's capability to quickly and efficiently build strategic energy infrastructure in a demanding international context while concretely addressing the country's energy needs," emphasizes Pierre Egot, Chief Operating Officer of IBL Energy Ltd.
Beyond the numbers, by injecting renewable energy into the national grid, SeaBrew Solar actively contributes to diversifying Mauritius's energy mix while enhancing the country's energy security.
This project is part of a broader dynamic, where the private sector supports, alongside authorities, Mauritius's evolution towards a sustainable energy model by mobilizing innovation and technical expertise.
