Rs 50,000 and Loan Facilities to Help Fishermen Replace Their Outboard Motors

Registered fishermen who qualify for the exceptional grant of Rs 50,000 for replacing outboard motors can now access loan facilities from the Development Bank of Mauritius. This measure was approved by the government during the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday, May 15, 2026, and involves the upcoming signing of a memorandum of understanding between the bank and the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy, and Fisheries. This assistance targets motors that have become irreparable or where repairs are not economically viable. Through this initiative, authorities aim to further encourage offshore fishing to increase catches and enhance fishermen's incomes.
