Weather for Agalega: Storm Chenge Intensifies
A special report for Agalega was issued at 05:45 this Wednesday, October 22nd, by the Mauritius Meteorological Service.
During the last night, the moderate tropical storm Chenge intensified into a severe tropical storm.
As of 04:00 this morning, Chenge was centered around the coordinates 10.4° South / 63.4° East, approximately 735 km east of Agalega.
It is currently moving west-southwest at a speed of about 15 km/h. On this trajectory, it poses a potential threat to Agalega.
Active clouds associated with Chenge are expected to impact the weather on the island starting this afternoon. Conditions will gradually become cloudy to overcast, with scattered showers, sometimes moderate to heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms.
Winds will blow from the south at around 40 km/h, gradually strengthening as Chenge approaches Agalega, with gusts potentially reaching 90 km/h.
The sea will become rough to very rough starting this evening, with significant swells present. Venturing out to sea is strongly discouraged.
The public in Agalega is advised to take the following precautions:
- Stay indoors and avoid open areas or shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
- Reinforce homes.
- Prepare an emergency kit.
- Secure boats.
