Energy: Electricity Consumption Surges in Mauritius

Electricity is flowing… and it’s flowing strong in Mauritius! In just one year, electricity demand has surged by over 40 megawatts, according to figures released by the Central Electricity Board (CEB) - an unprecedented record for such a short period.

To better understand the scale of this phenomenon, this increase is equivalent to the consumption of around 15,000 Mauritian households being powered simultaneously. The electricity network nearly reached 567.9 megawatts in February, compared to 525 megawatts at the same time in 2024.

On this World Energy Day, celebrated on October 22, the message is clear: it is becoming urgent to learn how to consume less, but more importantly, to consume better.
